Here’s a guide to making the most of your Disney World vacation while pregnant.

.1. Know the Rides That Are Pregnancy-Friendly

While there are some attractions you should avoid due to safety concerns (such as high-speed roller coasters and intense thrill rides), there are plenty of attractions that are perfect for expectant mothers. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Magic Kingdom:

    • It’s a Small World: A gentle boat ride that’s relaxing and filled with cheerful music.

    • The Haunted Mansion: A fun, slightly spooky ride that’s not too intense.

    • Pirates of the Caribbean: A calm boat ride with an exciting storyline and smooth sailing.

    • Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress: A seated, air-conditioned attraction that takes you through a futuristic family journey.

  • EPCOT:

    • Spaceship Earth: A slow-moving ride through history inside the iconic ball at the entrance.

    • The Seas with Nemo & Friends: A relaxed ride through an underwater world.

    • Living with the Land: A peaceful boat ride that takes you through Disney's agriculture and horticulture projects.

  • Disney's Hollywood Studios:

    • Muppet Vision 3D: A fun, interactive show that involves no motion or thrills.

    • Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage: A relaxing, sit-down show to enjoy a classic Disney tale.

    • Toy Story Mania: A 3D carnival game featuring your favorite Toy Story characters.

    • Fantasmic: A sit-down night time spectacular featuring all of your favorite Disney characters and fireworks.

  • Disney's Animal Kingdom:

    • Na’vi River Journey: A beautiful, calming boat ride through the bioluminescent world of Pandora.

    • Kilimanjaro Safaris: An open-air safari ride that’s bumpy but not uncomfortable, perfect for an afternoon adventure.

    • Festival of the Lion King: A Broadway-style stage show with acrobatics and stunning visuals.

Always check with Cast Members about any rides or attractions you're unsure of, as some may have height or health restrictions for pregnant guests. For the most part, any ride that doesn’t have a height requirement is most likely going to be pregnancy friendly!

2. Take Advantage of Rider Switch and Relaxing Experiences

If you’re traveling with other guests, take advantage of the Rider Switch program. This allows one adult to wait with the baby or other non-riders while the other adult enjoys the attraction. Then, they can switch without waiting in the line again. It’s a great way for both parents to experience the attractions they enjoy, even if they can’t do everything together.

Additionally, Disney World has a variety of experiences designed for relaxation and downtime, perfect for pregnant guests needing a break:

  • Shows and parades: Disney offers some of the best live shows and parades. From Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom to Festival of the Lion King at Animal Kingdom, these performances offer an opportunity to rest and enjoy the entertainment in a comfortable setting.

  • Relaxing walks: Wander around EPCOT’s World Showcase, Animal Kingdom’s lush trails, or the beautiful gardens at Magic Kingdom. These peaceful spots offer scenic views and moments of respite.

  • Character meet-and-greets: If you’re feeling tired but still want a memorable experience, meet your favorite characters! It’s a low-energy but fun activity that still gives you a dose of Disney magic.

  • Snacks: Try a variety of snacks around Disney World since you are “eating for two!”

  • Spa Day: Take a well deserved break and treat yourself to a spa day! Senses Spa at Disney World has a prenatal message to pamper the mom to be. This unique spa experience is gentle and relaxing for pregnant bodies, while providing the magical touches that only Disney can provide. This can be a great add on to any Disney World hotel stay. Always check with your doctor to make sure a spa day is suitable for you during your pregnancy.

3. Stay Hydrated and Take Breaks

Pregnancy can make you more prone to fatigue, so remember to stay hydrated and take regular breaks. Disney World has plenty of shaded areas, benches, and even air-conditioned spots like the Cool Zone in EPCOT’s Future World. Hydrate frequently, and don’t hesitate to stop for a rest. Your well-being is the most important thing, so listen to your body and take breaks when needed.

4. Consider Staying in a Resort with Great Amenities

Staying at a Disney Resort offers added convenience, especially for pregnant guests. Many of the Disney hotels offer excellent amenities like comfortable, spacious rooms, pools with lounges, and easy access to transportation to the parks. Opt for a resort that’s close to the parks, so you can easily return to your room for a rest during the day.

Additionally, staying on-site provides quick access to dining and relaxation options, allowing you to enjoy your time in Disney without worrying about transportation logistics.

5. Dining at Disney World: Pregnancy-Friendly Options

While Disney’s food scene is diverse and delicious, it’s important to consider pregnancy-safe dining options:

  • Avoid raw fish and undercooked meats, and make sure to ask for modifications if necessary.

  • Opt for fresh fruit, healthy snacks, or more traditional meals like pasta, rice, and chicken.

  • Many of the sit-down restaurants offer pregnancy-friendly choices, including vegetarian options, salads, and grilled proteins.

Also, be sure to stay away from heavy caffeine and limit sugary drinks, as these might not sit well during pregnancy.

6. Know Your Limits

It’s important to pace yourself and know your limits. Disney World can be overwhelming even without pregnancy, so take it slow, plan your days, and be flexible. Make sure to incorporate breaks and avoid packing too many activities into each day. Consider visiting the parks early in the morning or later in the evening when crowds are lighter and the weather is cooler. Make sure to hydrate. It’s always important to make sure you’re drinking enough water, but it’s especially true for pregnant moms! Bring your refillable water bottle and fill it with free water at a quick service counter or a water refill station.

7. Pregnancy Services at Disney World

Disney offers several amenities and services to make your experience more comfortable while pregnant:

  • First Aid Centers: Each park has a First Aid Center where you can take a break, get some quiet time, or rest if needed. You can also find comfortable seating, water, and snacks.

  • Comfortable Seating: Many attractions and shows offer ample seating, and you can always ask for a bench if needed.

  • Scooters: If the walking is too much for your swollen, pregnant feet, rent a scooter! For an additional fee, you can rent a scooter at any of the Disney Parks, and then return it before you leave. It’s easy to navigate the parks and lines with one. Just remember that it’s first come, first serve, so if you plan on renting, arrive early!

Visiting Disney World while pregnant is entirely doable, and with the right planning, it can be just as magical as any other Disney vacation. Whether you're enjoying a relaxing ride, catching a show, or simply wandering through the beautiful parks, there’s something for everyone—even for those expecting a little bundle of joy.

Remember, the key to a successful Disney trip while pregnant is pacing yourself, staying hydrated, and knowing which attractions will keep you comfortable and safe. Above all, embrace the magic and joy that Disney World offers and make unforgettable memories before your new adventure begins!
